    About the artist:

    Daniel Hughes serves as the Artistic Director & Conductor of The Choral Project, a mixed-voice chamber ensemble specializing in dramatic, conceptual performance of high-level choral music from the medieval period to the contemporary. He maintains an active schedule as a coach, clinician, adjudicator and guest conductor for many choral festivals and conventions throughout the U.S., having directed sessions in Vocal Pedagogy and Conducting Technique for the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA), the California Music Educators Association (CMEA) and GALA Choruses, as well as conducting honor choirs for ACDA and CMEA. Musical collaborations include ventures with Barbara Day Turner (San José Chamber Orchestra), Dr. Charlene Archibeque (San José State University Choraliers), international performances with well-known ensembles such as Costa Rica’s Café Chorale, and creative work with award-winning Broadway composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. In addition to serving as the Artistic Director and Conductor of The Choral Project, he also serves as the Chancel Choir Director for Los Gatos United Methodist Church.


    Hughes has extensive training in piano and voice and holds a Master of Arts degree in Conducting from San José State University. In addition to his awards with The Choral Project, he has been awarded 4th place in the 35th International Choral Competition in Gorizia, Italy; 2nd place in the ACDA National Student Conducting Competition; the Christina Cadena Memorial Accompanying Scholarship; and the California Arts Scholar Awards for piano and composition. He is an accomplished composer and arranger, and has his own choral series through Santa Barbara Music Publishing. Mr. Hughes’s biography is featured in Who’s Who in America. He made his New York City conducting debut at Avery Fisher Hall ~ Lincoln Center in March 2009, and will return in 2010 to Avery Fisher to conduct Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem.
