About Cristina:
Dance is an exciting living art form which involves students in participatory learning. It taps modalities of learning which children do not have enough opportunities to use. Cristina Ribeiro teaches a variety of dance forms from the North and South of Brazil plus International Folkloric Dances. Cristina emphasizes rhythm and expression in her work with the music and her choreography. The nature of Afro-Brazilian dance invites a study of African culture as it exists in Brazil. Passing the cultural significance and history of the dance is an important part of Cristina's work. Cristina spent 15 years working with Globo TV, the most successful TV of Latin America. She choreographed and performed on television, fashion shows, concerts, music festivals, and dance festivals all over the world, including Europe, North America, and South America. While teaching at the School for Youth in Brazil, she choreographed and directed various performances. Since 2000, Cristina has taught classes and workshops throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. She is currently working the Sambão Para O Povo samba school in Mountain View, and directed and choreographed their award winning performance in the 2001 and 2002 San Francisco Carnaval Parades, and collaborates with them on their Spirit of Brazil Shows.
