About the artist: MARTIN LEWIS (AEA) creates the role of "Ben Harper" in the world premiere of The Night of the Hunter at The Willows Theatre in Concord, CA. This new musical, by lyricist/playwright Stephen Cole and composer Claibe Richardson, is based on Davis Grubb’s 1953 novel, which was made into a movie in 1955.
Most recently, Martin performed the role of "Gabe Eisenstein" in Bat Out of Hell, Berkeley Opera’s highly acclaimed adaptation of Die Fledermaus, as well as the same role in Ross Halper's new translation of the popular operetta with North Bay Opera.
In the last year he has sung a wide range of roles including "The Ziegfeld Tenor" in AMTSJ’s Funny Girl, "The Padre" in Man of La Mancha at The Willows Theatre in Concord, CA, and "Sergeant Belcore" in Donizetti’s The Elixir of Love with Sonoma City Opera.
He was recently seen in California Conservatory Theatre of San Leandro's production of Dames at Sea. He has played the role of "Gaylord Ravenal" in Show Boat with Foothill Music Theatre and "Billy" in Anything Goes at both PCPA Theaterfest and Broadway by the Bay.
He has enjoyed performing frequently at American Musical Theater in San Jose, appearing in Evita, South Pacific, Annie, Children of Eden, Singin' in the Rain, and Victor/Victoria.
Martin performed the Fred Astaire role in Gershwin's Funny Face with San Francisco's highly acclaimed 42nd Street Moon and has also appeared in that company's productions of I Married an Angel, Sitting Pretty, Babes in Arms, and On A Clear Day... . For five years, he was a member of the First National Company of The Phantom of the Opera. A Wisconsin native, he holds a Mater's Degree from the Boston Conservatory.
