The Belmont Library will feature best-selling author and legal scholar Joel Bakan. Bakan, a professor of law at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, will appear to discuss his latest book, Childhood Under Siege: How Big Business Targets Children.

This is the follow-up to Bakan's 2004 best-selling title The Corporation: The Pathological Pursuit of Profit and Power, an account of how corporations have risen in the last 150 years to become a dominant economic

This month's meeting of this writers organization features Ezra Barany, who has been fascinated by codes and puzzles ever since he was a little tot. He started writing suspense and thriller stories in college and got seriously interested in the Bible Codes while attending a seminar in Jerusalem.

Ezra is a writer, a teacher and a songwriter. In his free time, he writes mushy love songs inspired by his wife and book coach Beth Barany. Ezra now lives in the Bay Area, where he is working

Autumn Gem - Documentary Screening

Autumn Gem is a documentary by Santa Clara-based filmmakers Rae Chang and Adam Tow about the "Chinese Joan of Arc," Qiu Jin (1875-1907), a radical women's rights acitivist who led an armed uprising against the corrup Qing Dynasty. She became the first female martyr for China's 1911 Revolution.
