For years, long lost information about the man that was literally instrumental in Charles Lindbergh's famous transatlantic flight sat forgotten in Bob Dye's home

Dye ran across the old newspaper and magazine clippings, telegrams, and letters about Brice Goldsborough one day when rifling through some old boxes As he read them he began to realize how much Goldsborough contributed to early aviation

Brice Goldsborough made a big impression in a short time In 1919 he started Pioneer Instrument Company, a firm that became one of the world's largest aviation instrument producers It was Goldsborough who designed, built, and installed the instrument panel for Lindbergh's famous plane, the Spirit of St Louis He also became associated with other famous names in aviation such as Glenn Curtiss, Clyde Cessna, Walter Beech, and Igor Sikorsky

To learn more about this forgotten aviator come listen to Author Bob Dye talk about Brice Goldsborough in his book, A Pioneer in Aviation: The Life Story of Brice Goldsborough There will be a book signing after the presentation

Private eyes, hired guns, sinister collectors, femme fatales, chorus girls, classy dames with a secret, and even innocent bystanders are all invited to an evening of vintage ballroom and Swing dancing at the Noir Club

Sara & Swingtime plays hot Swing, cool blues, and romantic ballroom standards in our tribute to the Film Noir classics of the 1940s and 50s Dance everything from elegant waltzes, tangos, and foxtrots to the hottest Swing and Latin dance tunes played by one of the Bay Area's classiest and most danceable Swing bands

For those of you wanting to brush up on your vintage Fox Trot and East Coast Swing skills, there will be a pre-ball dance workshop Suggested costume is evening dress of the 1930s, 40s, or 50s or modern evening dress, ideally in black, white, or shades of gray in honor of the great black and white classics of the Film Noir genre; however, this is by no means a requirement: colors are welcome and costumes are admired but not required for the ball

Ray Allen completed a full tour--thirty five missions--as a Boeing B-17 Navigator in the European theatre during the latter years of WWII He achieved the highest qualification a navigator could attain--Class Three Navigator When Ray shares some nail-biting details of his various missions, he tells it like it all happened earlier in the day!

For his brave service to his country, Ray received the Distinguished Flying Cross, five Air Medals, and three Battle Stars with Area Ribbons This hero had an active role during formation bombing raids on targets over Belgium, Holland, Germany, and Nazi occupied northern France With great success, Ray and his crew crippled Hitler's war machine by putting out of commission factories, oil fields, and oil refineries, which are the Achilles heel of any mechanized army

Ray received Army training as an aircraft mechanic and ever since has taken a keen interest in machinery, playing an active part in maintaining his flying machine A born aviator, Ray has been at the controls of the B-17, B-25, B-26, C-46, C-47, and a civilian operated P-51 He continues putting the sky beneath his wings while piloting his own Cessna Skymaster

If you've ever wondered what the famed Norden Bombsight looks like and how it works, Ray will have one on hand to show you and he can explain how it was put to use on the Flying Fortress You won't want to miss this presentation Come and meet one of the nation's finest

Todd Wagner will teach the men’s parts and Sarah Tull will teach the women’s parts Teaching will be at a beginning level Bringing a partner is not necessary, as partners are rotated during each session

You are invited to attend this elegant ball set in 1912 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the last evening on RMS Titanic

Bangers and Mash will play beautiful Edwardian waltzes, polkas, schottisches, set dances, and mixers, and the most sizzling ragtime hits of 1900-1912, including one-steps, two-steps, the newly popular tango, and, of course the traditional favorites: "The Congress of Vienna Waltz," "The Bohemian National Polka," "Lancers," and "Sir Roger de Coverley"

There will be a pre-ball dance workshop focusing on the "new" dances of the 20th century, and, as usual, all set dances and mixers will be briefly taught and called It is rumored that some of those charming passengers in steerage will make a guest appearance to perform and teach some of their own lively dances at intermission

Suggested costume for First Class passengers is evening dress from 1900-1912 or modern evening dress As always, however, costumes are admired but not required

The woodshed series is an opportunity for callers (or would-be callers) and musicians (or would-be musicians) to try out new (or new-to-them) material Callers present dances--typically English or contra--and ask the dancers for feedback on particular or general points When it is not their turn to call, they also dance In addition to some experienced dance musicians, the band is open--best for players who can sight-read or learn by ear quickly and play up to dance tempo

Dancers and musicians get in free, while the callers for that evening divide the $25 rental expense for the Carriage House There's a high proportion of discussion, trying things different ways, and so forth Therefore, if you just want to dance, you may find the woodshed series frustrating At its core, this is a working session, and dance geeks enjoy it very much
