    Black History Month Film Series - Confederate States of America and Lackawanna Blues

    Cañada College will host a series of events in February to celebrate Black History Month that include Black History Month Film Series that will be shown in the Main Theater. The Black Student Union, in partnership with the Office of Student Activities and the Associated Students of Cañada College are sponsoring the events.

    Cañada College will host a series of events in February to celebrate Black History Month that include Black History Month Film Series that will be shown in the Main Theater. The Black Student Union, in partnership with the Office of Student Activities and the Associated Students of Cañada College are sponsoring the events.

    Confederate States of America - this film, through the eyes of a faux documentary, takes a look at an America where the South won the Civil War. Supposedly produced by a British broadcasting company, the feature film is presented as a production being shown, controversially, for the first time on television in the States. Beginning with the British and French forces joining the battle with the Confederacy, thus assuring the defeat of the North at Gettysburg and ensuing battles, the South takes the battle northward and form one country out of the two.      Lackawanna Blues - Based on the award winning play by Ruben Santiago-Hudson, this poignant and colorful drama tells the inspirational story of a courageous woman, Nanny, whose spirit and strength served as the foundation for a struggling community trying to survive during the segregation era. Starring an exceptional ensemble cast led by Jimmy Smits, Rosie Perez, and Macy Gray, this inspiring drama from HBO Films is a celebration of the good things in life, no matter how tough times may be.
