    Portola Art Gallery presents Expressions in Water Media an exhibit of new water media paintings by Barbara von Haunalter of Los Altos Hills. Master of all painting mediums, Barbara von Haunalter of Los Altos Hills proves this month that water based paints sing. The new work created on site in Pescadero, Hidden Villa Ranch in Los Altos Hills and other Bay Area locations vibrates with color and depth via Barbara’s adept handling of her brush.

    Barbara uses transparent watercolor, watercolor with pastel, water-based oil and transparent watercolor, watercolor and gouache: on watercolor papers of various kinds, multimedia boards, MonaLisa panels, on canvas, and 300 lb. watercolor paper. The chaotic selection of mediums is well organized in the resulting paintings.

    Barbara says about the painting, Cornstalks, “I’ve always loved the way corn stalks looked when their time was up--the blond colors and patterns are intriguing. I painted these shapes in my garden, focusing on the abstract qualities I observed. I wanted to bring out the drama that I saw in the stalks against the background.”
