The Color of Light - An Exhibit by Mary K. Stahl and Alice Weil

Portola Art Gallery presents The Color of Light, an exhibit of works in oil and pastel by award-winning gallery artists Alice Weil of Menlo Park and Mary K. Stahl of Palo Alto. Portola Art Gallery presents The Color of Light, an exhibit of works in oil and pastel by award-winning gallery artists Alice Weil of Menlo Park and Mary K. Stahl of Palo Alto. Many people don’t think about sunlight having any color. But depending on the time of day and whether the skies are cloudy or clear, sunlight has many color profiles. Moreover, no two people see color the same way, and this is reflected in the paintings of the artists paired in this exhibit. These two artists see color and approach their craft as individuals, producing strikingly harmonious paintings. Both portray a wondrous sense of time and place in their paintings with their unique and sensitive observation of light and atmosphere. Their dynamic brushstrokes and luminous, saturated color evoke the brilliance of sunlight upon the landscape or the magical effect of light upon a floral still life.

Alice Weil’s paintings have been exhibited at the Triton Museum, in Santa Clara, CA, at the prestigious Greenhouse Gallery of Fine Art in San Antonio, Texas, and the Art Museum of Los Gatos. She is participating in the 50/50 Show at the Sanchez Art Center in Pacifica, and in the Society of Western Artists annual show.

Mary K. Stahl’s paintings have been exhibited at the Triton Museum, the Haggin Museum in Stockton, CA, and the Art Museum of Los Gatos. One of her paintings will be displayed in the upcoming Pastels USA exhibit at the Triton Museum. She has been juried into this year’s Santa Cruz Plein Air Affair and the North Tahoe Plein Air events.
