Anton Chekhov's play examines the decay of the privileged class in Russia through the lives of three sisters — Olga, Maria and Irina — who grew up in urban Moscow but have been living in a small provincial town for eleven years. The girls continually dream of returning to Moscow, a symbol of their happiness.
