    Avi Shemi-Shoham paints from memories of his childhood spent in the town of Aleppo, Syria. His paintings perpetuate moments in the life of a magnificent Jewish community a few hundred years old: its traditions, celebrations, scenes from the town, pogroms, characters, etc. Captured in vivid color, these reminiscences on canvas honor a community that no longer exists in the land of Syria, but those traditions continue to flourish in Israel...

    Avi Shemi-Shoham paints from memories of his childhood spent in the town of Aleppo, Syria. His paintings perpetuate moments in the life of a magnificent Jewish community a few hundred years old: its traditions, celebrations, scenes from the town, pogroms, characters, etc. Captured in vivid color, these reminiscences on canvas honor a community that no longer exists in the land of Syria, but those traditions continue to flourish in Israel and the Diaspora.

    Avi Shemi-Shoham was born in Aleppo, Syria and immigrated to Israel in 1960. He is a member of the Israel Artists and Sculptors Association and has served as chairman of the Bat-Yam Artists and Sculptors Association for the past eight years. Some of his pieces appear on permanent display at the Bible Museum in Tel-Aviv.
