    Celebrate May Day with PEERS at a rollicking Victorian costume ball with a Greek mythological theme inspired by Jacque Offenbach's hysterically funny masterpiece Orpheus in the Underworld, famous for making the Cancan an international hit. The guest band for the evening is Avalon Rising, one of the finest American Celtic and Celtic Fusion Rock bands. Avalon Rising is as comfortable playing Victorian and vintage ballroom dance music and hauntingly beautiful traditional Celtic music as they are playing hard-hitting Renaissance and Celtic Fusion Rock; expect, therefore, a wide variety of dance music at the ball – from elegant waltzes and tangos to wild polkas, country dances, and reels. As usual, all set dances will be briefly taught or called at the ball. While some of the dances are highly choreographed, others are perfect for free-style dancing and creative expression. Indeed, we have seen groups of dancers dancing the polka, an Irish polka set, a Scots reel, and free-form rock to the very same Avalon Rising tune.

    For those wanting an introduction to 19th century ballroom dance, there will be a pre-ball dance class at 7pm. Suggested attire is Victorian evening dress, costumes inspired by Greek and Roman mythology, or a creative combination of the two! Come as your favorite god, demi-god, hero, heroine, or mythological character. Visitors from other pantheons are more than welcome.

    There will be a no-host (cash) bar, and a light snack buffet. Potluck contributions to the buffet will be greatly appreciated as the resources of even Mt. Olympus can be strained by a popular ball.
