    Once On This Island is a delightful musical fable set on an unspecified island in the French Antilles. The show, with lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, was first presented Off-Broadway by Playwrights Horizons as part of its 1989-1990 season. It received rave reviews before moving on to Broadway.

    The show revolves around a group of Caribbean Island peasants who are waiting out a fierce tropical storm by performing a fairy tale of star-crossed lovers; but inherent in this tale are the serious themes of class distinction and racial prejudice which plague our own society. Through music, song and dance, the musical explores the universal issues which affect us all…love, anger, forgiveness, faith, maturity and death.

    This musical is a departure from past WHS Drama Productions in that it has a more serious side than previous musicals. The music is fabulous, but challenging. Director Barry Woodruff is very excited about this show, and the cast is hard at work to bring you another amazing musical!
