This exhilarating documentary “established a musical bridge between two cities that are political rivals, Havana and New York although their populations are more united than people would think” in the words of its director. This exhilarating documentary “established a musical bridge between two cities that are political rivals, Havana and New York although their populations are more united than people would think” in the words of its director. The rebellious and dissident discourse of the musicians invites us to reflect on the counterculture and the parallel realities that arise in every government system.

The dreams, the family, the barrio, the city, life, war, and politics are some of the themes that permeate their music and nourish the story. From the neighborhoods of Havana and New York the camera portrays, with a participatory vision, the reflections that the musicians of both cities have elaborated in relation to their roots, the evolution of the drum and to the soul of hip hop.

FIRMES/Stand - A Private tries to stand at attention during a long official ceremony in spite of the obstacles he faces, such as the sun, sweat, tiredness and an insistent mosquito. While he listens to the official speech, the soldier becomes aware of the difference between the many who follow and the few who lead.
