Havana Eva takes place in a Havana shaken by Fidel’s retirement when winds of hope are blowing over the island. Eva, a young seamstress, confined in a despotic and monochromatic government clothing factory that makes only one style of dress, dreams of designing beautiful clothes and becoming a fashion designer. Frustrated by her lazy, though adorable Cuban boyfriend, she meets a sophisticated ex-patriot Cuban-American who dazzles her with a glamorous future. After many deceptions and surprises, Eva has to choose between the two men she loves. Hers is an unexpected decision and a tale of women’s liberation from the chains of parents, work, and men, in order to realize one’s dream.

Venezuelan actress Prakriti Maduro- a charmer- turns in an enchanting performance captivating the movie audiences with a naturalness and innocence that is hard to top. With a simple story, dusted with magic realism, Fina Torres masterly weaves a humorous but powerful metaphor of today’s Cuba and its future.

Winner, Best Picture at the Los Angeles International Latino Film Festival, 2010.

This gala event for the Redwood City International Latino Film Festival includes a Q&A session with invited guest, director Fina Torres.
