    Robert Ortbal makes objects and creates installations to explore the distinct and interrelated worlds of natural phenomena and human nature. The process of regeneration is a theme he continually returns to as he searches for the hidden growth, within real and imagined spaces, that articulates psychological states of being. Robert Ortbal’s work is akin to forms found in the plant, animal, and mineral kingdoms. Ortbal calls these “hybrids”. His work transforms the exhibition space from something expected into something unexpected. Ortbal uses everyday mundane materials like chicken wire, resin, paint, plastic golf balls, packing foam, wire and Styrofoam, and converts them into forms reminiscent of tangled webs of the human nervous systems or stellar constellations. They explore the unseen internal cosmos of a plethora of micro and macro organisms. Through his work, we can witness the subtle transformation of materials, shapes, and surfaces into complex form. There will be an opening reception on Sunday, February 8th, 2pm-4pm.

    Open House at Wiegand Gallery Fundraiser:

    Please join the Wiegand Gallery for a wine and food pairing fundraiser hosted by Draeger's Wine Director Kevin Forsaith on Saturday, February 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will include lecture by the artist. Tickets are $ 35 per person and will support the Wiegand Gallery Exhibition Program (partly tax-deductible).
