Alice_Kelmon_and_Betsy_Wolff\nEvent Date Begin: 2010-01-09\nEvent Date End
: 2010-03-20\n\n&#9658\; Alice Kelmon works in varying degrees of abstract
ion\, always seeking freshness\, naturalness and intimacy in her images.
Often her work suggests a landscape she has seen or imagined\, but mostly
she portrays an atmosphere or frame of mind. While the pieces in this exh
ibit lean toward calm reflection and reverie\, lately Alice is drawn to st
udy chaos. Two ongoing bodies of work are Open Book which refers to the n
ature of narrative\, revelation and ambiguity in art\, and Kyoto Agreement
which is inspired by the relationship of Mother Earth and all her denizen
s.\nTo an extent\, Alice's fascination with mediums drives her work. She
loves the translucency and sense of impermanence of watercolor\, and the d
iscovery allowed by the processes of encaustic and monoprint. On occasion\
, she feels compelled to play with and combine materials\, breaking into t
he 3rd dimension.\nSince receiving her BA in Painting and Printmaking at S
FSU in 2004\, Alice has shared Studio 3 with Betsy Wolff at Sanchez Art Ce
nter where she enjoys working on exhibits and community art events. Alice
has exhibited in juried shows at Sanchez\, the Triton Museum of Art in Sa
nta Clara\, and the O'Hanlon Center for the Arts in Mill Valley. She like
s to share her love of experimentation\, teaching an Intro to Printmaking
class for up to 4 people in her studio.\n&#9658\; Betsy Wolff often thinks
of painting as a dance of sorts\, not only the process itself\, but also
the resulting play of color\, line\, texture and light. While her media a
nd subjects often change\, She is always concerned with color and gesture\
, and usually with conveying movement in the static surface of the panel o
r canvas.\nBetsy has most recently been working with abstract images\, but
often find herself drawing on images from the garden. Sometimes it is be
cause they are the perfect vehicle for the play of brushwork and color\, b
ut also because the garden\, secret\, real or imagined\, is a retreat and
a place of enjoyment for her\, so its images often return in her work.\nMo
st recently\, Betsy has been using mixed media with acrylic as the base\,
but also works in oil paint and other media\, and occasionally dabbles in
illustration. Betsy is a Pacifica resident\, and shares a studio with Alic
e Kelmon at the Sanchez Art Center.\n\nStart time: Artist Reception 2/26:
 7pm-9pm\n\nGallery open during Saturday concerts
